A popular stroll

The original Shoreham circular walk has been overall the most popular hike at KWNL since I started the site in 2015. I walked it this weekend for the first time in many months but found it very quiet! But its popularity is no accident. Obviously the village itself is a major draw (but please park away from it and try not to drive through it if not arriving by train), but with the River Darent and its side streams, great little gardens, hillsides and views, the route is all in all a real winner with not a dull moment. It was nice to see the Mount Vineyard and The Crown pub open again. I guess the George will be back with us in the summer. I took the detour from Mill Lane around the vineyard and behind the churchyard, a stretch of path I really love. Meenfield Wood bluebells on the ridge above the village were beginning to show nicely.

  1. We did the Otford circular last Saturday, it was superb and the wild flowers were carpeting the woodland. We saw wood anemones, celandine, Ladies smock, dog’s mercury, bluebells, cowslips and honesty. Many thanks for devising these.

  2. Good afternoon – thank you for another helpful blog post. Your site never fails to help and inspire. I wondered if you had a list of best walks for views? Sometimes I just need a view… I’m close to the Darenth Valley so that’s my go-to, but I’m trying to collate a list of walks with inspiring views so that when I have bad days and can’t think straight, I can just pick one off the list and go. Trosely country park is another good one. I’d be grateful for any other suggestions!

    Best wishes Angela

    • Hi Angela, most of the walks have great views but probably the most far-reaching vistas are at One Tree Hill, Underriver (same view essentially – as far as Wye one way and Ashdown Forest the other) and Ide Hill (you can see the Surrey Hills from there).
