Santa Rosa Plateau ecological reserve, north west of Temecula, Riverside county. This superb protected area is a hub for native flora and fauna, including mountain lion, red diamond rattlesnake and San Diego alligator lizard. California oak woodland, with Engelmann oak, is a rare and treasured habitat here. We saw a pair of white-tailed kites here and a quick flash of tarantula.
